Elizabeth Bishop wrote "One Art" about, I think, losing a friend or lover, I don't know. I was planning a big move at the time and thinking about all the ways to lose people, places and things Bishop writes about in her poem. When making this figure I thought about the dignity required to carry on in the process of letting go of much and the opportunity to welcome what comes next.
